Dessert Hot Cross Buns recipe

Treat the family this autumn with this tasty recipe

10 mins preparation | 10 mins cooking | Serves 4



  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 60g butter
  • 4 hot cross buns, halved sliced
  • banana, to serve
  • strawberries, to serve
  • maple syrup, to serve


  1. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk and vanilla.
  2. Dip hot cross buns into the egg mixture, turning to coat.
  3. Heat butter in a large frying pan on medium.
  4. Cook buns in two batches 2 to 3 minutes each side, until golden.
  5. Serve with banana and strawberries. Drizzle with maple syrup.


  • If preferred, use fruit bread or brioche in place of hot cross buns.
