Christmas orange spiced nuts recipe

Nuts are a part of the Christmas food story. We always have little dishes of these on the Christmas table. A very welcome gift.

Makes 3 cups
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cooking Time 12–15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 cups mixed nuts
  • 1 egg white
  • ½ teaspoon mixed spice
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • grated rind of 1 orange
  • 2 tablespoons caster sugar

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Line an oven tray with non-stick baking paper or a silicon sheet.
  2. Place all the ingredients into a large plastic zip-lock bag. Thoroughly squish together and coat all the nuts in the gooey, spicy egg-white mixture.
  3. Spread the nuts on the prepared baking tray and bake for 5 minutes. Stir and bake a further 5–8 minutes, until the nuts smell delicious and have toasted dark brown. Remove from the oven and cool on the tray.
  4. When cold, break up the nut clusters and store in airtight cellophane bags.

Celebration tip

Spiced nuts or lovingly baked biscuits with handmade wrappings and cards are so much more appreciated than any old thing you can simply buy from a shop — ask any school teacher!
