An Auckland-based tech start-up is set to transform the way people travel.

The Campable app allows motorhome travellers to stay with local landowners and businesses on their own land.

Motorhome travellers use the Campable app to browse through sites, make bookings, and complete payments, while hosts use the Campable website to list their property and organise bookings. This allows the owners of private property to share their space and lifestyle with travellers while earning additional income.

The makers of Campable also have an eye on this winter’s huge sporting opportunity for New Zealand with the British and Irish Lions rugby tour. Importantly, Campable currently has more than 200 motorhome sites available for the Auckland matches at Alexandra Park raceway.

Warwick Beauchamp, Campable’s director, says the app will completely change the motorhome travel market.

"Campable provides an alternative to crowded and noisy freedom camping and expensive alternatives where tourists can be charged for facilities they don’t need and are often packed in wing mirror to wing mirror," he says. "In these sites, they are just meeting other tourists—not locals."

Campable also makes it extremely easy for travellers to book their trip, either in advance or as they travel. It’s all done through the app, so everything you need to find amazing sites, make bookings, and pay for each night is on the same platform. "As we grow, Campable is also going to focus on local experiences," Warwick says.

"We encourage hosts to provide something special and unique whenever someone stays, whether it’s a tour of their farm or vineyard, a free game of golf, a bottle of wine from their own grapes, or a fishing trip together at the creek. We want to revolutionise travel through authentic experiences, as well as through creating variety."

Range of hosts and locations

Campable has hosts across New Zealand, from North Cape to Te Anau, including distinguished resorts such as Wairakei Resort Taupo, Copthorne Resort Bay of Islands, and Maruia Springs Thermal Resort as well as vineyards, working farms, adventure activity sites, hotels, restaurants, cafes, elite campgrounds, surf clubs, golf courses, rugby clubs, baches/sections at beaches, and urban locations.
