Christchurch Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park

30 November New Zealand’s largest free, outdoor, Christmas party returns to North Hagley Park, where some of the nation’s most talented musical acts and dancers are poised to perform a string of massive Christmas hits. As with past years, it looks set to be an uplifting festive extravaganza in support of the young-Kiwi support group, Youthline.

A Christmas Carol, Christchurch

30 November to 21 December In its fourth year at the Court Theatre, this innovative production of the Dickens classic shows no signs of becoming anything less than a sell-out. With a charming touch of comedy and plenty of audience participation, two actors and a pianist will get you into a festive spirit. There is free parking at the theatre for audience members, while tickets are $20 for adults.

Wellington Christmas Markets

30 November to 22 December Wellington Underground Market in Jervois Quay plays host to this cheerful annual event, active every Saturday and Sunday from 30 November until Christmas. There is live music to enjoy while you sample a mouth-watering range of seasonal street food from local vendors and find the perfect gift from more than 100 stalls in support of the local community.

Paihia Christmas Parade

6 December This spectacular parade of floats annually transforms Williams Road in Paihia. Both the atmosphere and float decorations are regularly exceptional, and this year looks set to be no different with the theme of ‘Dr Seuss’. Admission is free and floats themselves are free to enter if you feel like adding your own spark of yuletide cheer to the parade.

Rotorua Carols by Candle Light

13 December Make sure to wrap up and bring (or hire) a candle to properly experience an ethereal and moving night of carolling in the naturally stunning Kuirau Park. The evening will also feature dance, choral performances, and an appearance from the Rotorua Symphonic Band. Admission is free.

Queenstown Christmas Show 2019

15 December This wonderful one-night-only Christmas show at the Queenstown Events Centre takes the audience on a lively journey across the world to discover how Christmas is celebrated everywhere. Fantastic festive fun for all ages. Family tickets go from $35 — make sure you head in early for a great seat.

Auckland Christmas Lights at MOTAT

15 to 24 December Enjoy a sparkling evening at Auckland’s Museum of Transport and Technology, where the grounds are transformed into a classically festive bonanza of fairy lights and classy decorations. Take a tram ride around this Christmas wonderland, glide around the ice rink, or enjoy a seasonal movie and live music. For a mere $2, there is plenty for all ages to do and see.

A Night Before Christmas, Tauranga

21 December There’s nowhere better to gear up for the big day than at Bethlehem College in Tauranga, home to the Bay of Plenty’s largest free Christmas party.
