We asked our Facebook followers to suggest their favourite ice-cream stops – here are eight great (and yummy!) suggestions...

One Road Ice Cream Company, Tirau

Passing through Tirau? Be sure to make a stop at One Road. All their ice cream is made with fresh cream, the sorbet is created with fresh fruit, and it’s all made on the premises. You’ll find One Road at 52 Main Road (on the left heading north, opposite the big sheep).

Juicy Ice Cream, Kumeu, Auckland

Located at 505 State Highway 16 in Kumeu, Juicy has something for everyone – from creamy gelato, fresh sorbets, and real fruit ice cream to good coffee for those who prefer something a little hotter.

Relax outside on the big comfy bean bags, or check out the quirky interior décor, including a very cool guitar-playing astronaut!

Copenhagen Cones, Mt Maunganui

Ask any local around Mt Maunganui where to find the best ice cream, and you’re sure to hear about Copenhagen Cones.

The perfect treat for when you’ve walked the Mount. Choose from a great range of flavours with yummy waffle cones. There can be a bit of a queue in summer, but definitely worth the wait!

Pokeno Ice Cream and Coffee Shop, Pokeno

If you’re big into BIG ice creams then you can’t go past this well-known stop. Famous for their jumbo-sized serves, this shop has mastered the art of stacking scoops.

Never mind a double or triple scoop, how about 12, or 15! There’s a takeaway store right next door too if you’re in the mood for some hot chips before you tuck in to that mega cone.

Black Peak Gelato, Wanaka

Famous for their Central Otago flavours – apricot, cherry, peach, strawberry and more – Black Peak knows how to make awesome ice cream. All their gelato and sorbets are made on site with New Zealand whole milk, fresh eggs, and quality local ingredients. Grab your favourite flavour, head over to the lake, and enjoy the relaxed Wanaka vibe. Bliss!

Rollickin Dessert Café, Christchurch

With flavours like Superman Dark Chocolate, Pops Lemon Pie, and Peanut Butter & Jelly, it’s easy to see why this cafe is always popular with all ages.

For those needing a pick-me-up, the Crouching Tiger sorbet contains organic espresso ‘beaten into a lickable creamy brew’… yum! You’ll find the cafe at the Armagh Street end of New Regent Street, There’s plenty of outdoor seating too.

NZ Fudge Farm, Whangarei

Got a sweet tooth? The NZ Fudge Farm dessert cafe is worth a stop. Not only does this haven of deliciousness – located at the Town Basin marina – offer one of Whangarei’s largest selections of handmade chocolates, fudge, and sweets, they also make some pretty mouth-watering desserts using fudge sauces, gourmet ice creams, and all sorts of yummy toppings.

Lady Jane’s, Rotorua

Not sure what flavour you fancy? Lady Jane’s on Tutanekai Street in Rotorua has over 40 to choose from – from traditional hokey pokey to white chocolate and raspberry and Anzac coconut cookie.

Having served up their tasty treats for more than 30 years, this ice cream parlour has become something of an icon in the area.
