NZMCD catches up with the team at Country RV to check out their new premises and their latest models

When we last caught up with Rob Axton and the team from Country RV Mt Maunganui in November last year, they were preparing to move from their premises on the busy main road.

In April this year, the business made the move to MacDonald Street where they now have a large indoor showroom, more space outdoors, and a much larger workshop.

And while there’s still plenty to be done to finish off the massive new showroom, it is already well stocked with some exciting new models, including four models from the 2018 Caravelair Anteres range, along with the new 2018 Mobilvetta K-Yacht 85.

Caravelair Anteres

Caravelair -496-with -car ---oak -tree

Part of The Trigano Group, French manufacturer Caravelair has been producing caravans since 1962. The new 2018 Anteres range offers a lightweight, easy tow caravan, at price points comparable to second-hand.

"The Anteres range offers a very good caravan with excellent standard features at a very reasonable price," Rob says.

Rob has chosen the four models on offer ranging from four to six berths—the 406, 455, 480, and 496—specifically to suit the New Zealand market. Because the range is constructed using a mixture of polyester (GRP) and insulating XPS panels, the caravan exteriors have a greater resistance not only to rot and rust but also to damage from impact and scratches. The exterior is also easy to clean and because it’s more flexible than aluminium, provides better absorption of noise from rain.

The range also has double-glazed SEITZ windows fitted with high-quality pleated blinds and fly screens for privacy and security.

Each features a Truma Combi 6 water heating and blown-air system, which can be operated on either gas or electricity, plus double-glazed windows, and grade-three insulation for winter comfort.

In the bedroom, a Comfort Plus mattress—made in France using the latest bedding technology, including an anti-dust mite cover—provides a good level of support and comfort.

Caravelair 455 kitchen

The kitchens all include a Thetford Duplex three burner hob (two gas and one electric), plus a combined oven-grill. Kitchen storage includes a minimum of two overhead cabinets for those essential condiments and goodies to create your favourite culinary treats, with two underbench cupboards, plus a decent-sized drawer with a cutlery tray and space for utensils.

The bench space is compact, although a handy drop-down bench extension adds just enough room to create a practical working space. Each model also includes a three-way 85-litre Trigano fridge.

Each of the models also come with 100-watt solar, a 100amp/hr deep cycle battery, manual satellite dish, LED lighting throughout, LED TV (including DVD and Freeview decoder), exterior shower and barbecue points, and self-contained portable tanks as standard (with optional fitted tanks also available). And each includes AL-KO shock absorbers and AL-KO AKS 3004 stabilisers for safer towing.

Also included as standard is a one-year manufacturer’s warranty, five-year water ingress warranty, three-year WOF, four-year EWOF, four-year self-containment certificate, plus a full working demonstration and a one-night ‘practice run’ at a local campground.

Caravelair 406—the first foray

Caravelair -406

At just 5.51 metres, this compact four-berther ticks all the boxes for families looking for their first caravan. The design offers a dining-lounge area at the front, which converts to a double bed at 1.9 metres long and 1.3 metres wide.

An additional two-person dining area along the side opposite the kitchen converts to a set of single bunk beds for the kids, and there’s good storage space with a couple of overhead cabins and a wardrobe alongside. A curtain runs across the bunks also, helping close off the sleeping area and keep things dark to encourage the littlies to sleep.

At the rear, the compact bathroom makes good use of space by squeezing in a normal-sized Thetford toilet and washbasin, plus a shower.

All in all, a lovely little van that offers a clever layout for families looking for an affordable first foray into caravan camping. And with a GVM of just 1150kg, an average family wagon will happily tow the 406, which really does make it an affordable option.

Caravelair 455—perfect for couples

Caravelair -455

Stepping inside the 455, first impressions are of a roomy, comfortable caravan that offers a decent amount of space for a couple to stretch and enjoy some well-earned peace and quiet.

Featuring a fixed side double bed at the rear, the Anteres 455 ticks an important box for those looking for a permanent bed. Although the 455 is more suited to couples, the U-shaped lounge up front also converts into a double bed if needed.

Alongside the rear bed is the combined shower/toilet, which may not be the biggest bathroom you’ll find in the range, but it has everything needed without gobbling up space that you’d be happy to enjoy elsewhere. Again, with a GVM of just 1250kg, the average family wagon will handle the 455 with ease.

Caravelair 496—family and friends

Caravelair -496

With sleeping for up to six people, the 496 is designed with families in mind and packs quite a punch for a van that’s just 5.85 metres long (excl. hitch). Mum and dad can sleep comfortably in the rear double bed, the permanent bunk beds will be popular with the littlies, and any extras can transform the lounge area into a double bed.

The light-coloured wood interior and pastels and creams throughout add to the sense of space and creates a relaxing, luxurious ambience that just feels good (and when you remember the price point, it feels even better).

The U-shaped lounge area up front is plush and roomy, and an extra two-person dinette opposite the kitchen is the perfect spot for catching up on e-mails or reading the morning paper (if people still do that).

The shower is a combined toilet/shower with a curtain to keep the toilet area dry, with a washbasin and cabinet that includes a mirrored cabinet and even a mains socket for your hairdryer (very handy!).

Caravelair 480—space and style

Caravelair -480

Stepping inside the 480, the eye-catching, spacious layout is sure to prove popular with Kiwis.

At the rear, the fixed island bed (extendable to 1.83 metres) offers up a comfy retreat with plenty of storage space, including his and hers wardrobes at each site and an additional corner cabinet with a mirror above. For extra passengers, the twin sofas in the lounge area converts to a large double bed.

The U-shaped lounge area feels separate from the bedroom with lovely long sofas (1.57 metres) and large scatter cushions for extra comfort—perfect for a lazy afternoon with your favourite book or for the kids to watch TV if it’s wet outside. The lounge would comfortably seat five around the coffee table. A handy addition is the inclusion of two USB points alongside the mains.

Caravelair -480-lounge

At the rear of the bedroom is a full-width bathroom—the most spacious of the range—which includes both an under-sink and overhead cabinet. The cabinetry is generous in size with deep shelving to hold everything needed for an extended family holiday. The shower is a good size and includes a detachable showerhead and a stylish strip incorporating a clever lighting feature.

K-Yacht -85-tecn -Kitchen -+-Front -Lounge

All Mobilvetta models sold by Country RV are covered by a five-year bodyshell water ingress guarantee and a two-year habitation guarantee, which covers replacement parts and labour costs for anything that needs to be fixed during this time after normal use.
They also come with a Winter Pack preparation kit, which includes an insulated wastewater tank, underfloor heating, and a Truma iNet-ready Combi 6 gas water heating system.

Satellite dishes, 130-watt solar panels, LED lighting, exterior shower and barbecue connectors, and heavy-duty flyscreens and blinds are all on the standard fitment list.
Both the 79 and 85 include a large garage that runs the full width of the motorhome, making it easy to reach in the grab your e-bike or fishing gear from either side. In addition, the Mobilvetta has a 2000kg braked towing capacity if you plan on taking the boat with you.

And when you drive away your new Mobilvetta, you also take home a two-year Fiat mechanical warranty, five-year water ingress warranty, two-year habitation warranty, three-year WOF, four-year EWOF, four-year self-containment warranty, one-year registration, and New Zealand gas certification, as well as a full working demo and one-night ‘practice run’ at a local campground.

K-yacht 85 single twins

K-Yacht -85-tecn -Rear -Single -Beds -4

The first thing you’ll notice about this particular model is the left-hand side habitation door—a strong selling point for Kiwi buyers.

Inside, the 85 model features twin singles at the rear, which can also be converted to a queen bed. In addition, a pull-down double bed over the lounge provides extra sleeping space, should you want to share this luxury retreat with littlies or some well-deserving friends.

The kitchen and en-suite style bathroom are centrally located with the added bonus of being able to be shut off from the rest of the motorhome via a panel door.

K-yacht 79 fixed double

K-Yacht -79-tecn _007

Rob ordered his first stock of the K-Yacht 79 in late 2016 and it was sold out soon after. It’s a testament to an impressive brand that has found favour with discerning Kiwi motorhomers.

The layout of the 79 features a central, full-width bathroom with the bedroom at the rear that offers up a queen bed with his/her cubbies and side tables and curving stairs on each side in keeping with the superyacht atmosphere. An additional pull-down bed over the dinette means the kids or grandkids can join the fun, too.
