A new television show featuring contestants travelling around New Zealand in maui motorhomes is set to reach nearly two-hundred million viewers.

When international company, Scripps Networks Interactive, decided to film a new entertainment series in New Zealand which required motorhomes, it knocked on maui's door.

The resulting ten-part series, RV Rampage, was filmed in New Zealand last year across 10 locations and will screen on Travel Channel (SKY025). The channel is available in 130 countries across the UK, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific.

Potentially, RV Rampage will take New Zealand into the homes of more than 200,000,000 viewers around the world.

RV Rampage

RV Rampage is hosted by Henry Cole, seasoned Travel Channel host and presenter of World's Greatest Motorcycle Rides, and popular presenter and broadcaster Amanda Byram of Total Wipeout, The Swan, and Big Breakfast fame.

In the show, the presenters host five international teams of two who battle it out against a backdrop of stunning NZ scenery and coastline to be crowned the ultimate adventurer. The teams journey in maui motorhomes with the five pairs sharing three motorhomes for the duration of the trip.

Pushed to their very limits, the teams undertake exciting and heart-stopping challenges designed to immerse them in the culture and lifestyle of New Zealand, and 'rampage challenges' to test them both mentally and physically.

There are tears and tantrums, fun and frolics, jitters and jeopardy as the 10 competitors live, travel, and adventure together. Jam-packed with daredevil adventures, fascinating insider knowledge, and showcasing the very best of New Zealand — this is the road trip of a lifetime.

The competing teams travelled in four-berth maui Beach motorhomes, which come complete with apartment-style kitchen utensils and fresh white linen, just like what you'd expect to find in a hotel.

Filming in New Zealand

Co-host Henry Cole was thrilled to be back in New Zealand for the filming last year, the place he declares is the best country in the world to tour on motorcycle. "I ride all over the world and I'm yet to find a country as wonderful as New Zealand. It really is God's Own country and it's awesome to be back."

Meanwhile, it was a first time experience for Amanda Byram, who commented on arrival, "It's my first time to New Zealand and it's the most excited I've been about a show in a very long time. I love travel and adventure, so this is a dream job for me. I'd heard lots of amazing things about New Zealand before coming over so I'm really excited to discover it for myself."

As the key sponsor of the series, maui was excited to be involved. Kate Meldrum, general manager marketing and customer experience for maui said, "We were delighted to be involved with the series. The programme really tells the story that visitors to New Zealand will get the most out of their holiday through travelling by campervan. And of course, Travel Channel reaches a vast international audience."

Tourism New Zealand also provided valuable assistance to RV Rampage producers, supported by 10 different regional tourism organisations and the Holiday Parks Association of New Zealand. Justin Watson, Tourism New Zealand's director of trade, PR, and major events commented, "New Zealand caters for every kind of visitor, whether they are looking for adventure sports or a winery tour. This series will showcase the diversity and provide global exposure which is a real coup."
